Dear John,

February is Black History Month, a time to honor the contributions of Black Americans to our country’s history, culture, and communities.

But this month also gives us time to reflect on the fight for justice and equality that is far from over.

We must ensure equal access to health care, education, jobs, and more – no matter what you look like. We must protect voting rights and combat the GOP’s undemocratic attempts to suppress voters, particularly Black voters. We must respond to the racial injustices that so many are speaking out against and address systemic racism in our country. We must defend our public schools and universities from the radical right’s attacks that seek to undermine and erase Black history from our curriculum.

We can, and must, do better to ensure we live up to the American values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all.

If you agree, I hope you’ll add your name next to mine to join my call to demand justice and equality for all.

Thank you, and happy Black History Month,

Chris
