As we expected, this is how House Republicans spent the first month of their new majority:
- Failing to organize and fighting over leadership. It took them multiple days and 15 votes to elect their new Speaker, delaying swearing in members of Congress and keeping them from doing the jobs they were elected to do.
- Threatening to default on the national debt. It is a move that could put millions of Americans’ retirements, seniors’ Social Security payments, and veterans’ benefits — as well as our economy — at risk. Why? So that they can make massive cuts to programs Texans and American families rely on every day, like Social Security and Medicare.
- Spreading dangerous misinformation. Some of the first bills they brought to the floor were based on false claims about abortion care and tacitly condoned violence against reproductive health care providers.
- Passing bills that would actually hurt, not help. They’ve advanced measures that would increase the burden on taxpayers by cutting much-needed IRS resources to help families and small business owners, and limiting the White House’s ability to lower gas prices.
They aren’t doing it without a fight. Lizzie’s been fighting the bad ideas every step of the way. And she is going to keep fighting for the priorities of TX-07, our state, and our country.
And together, #TeamLizzie is going to keep fighting to re-elect Lizzie and win back the House majority so we can return to leadership that’s focused on getting the things done that Americans want done. Your contributions support our efforts — will you make a contribution today?
Thanks,
Team Lizzie
