1) How Radical Is Today’s Democratic Party? 86 House Democrats Refuse To Denounce Socialism
The House voted last week on a resolution that states: “Congress denounces socialism in all its forms, and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States of America,”
The resolution enumerates the failures and immorality of socialism. It notes that “socialist ideology necessitates a concentration of power that has time and time again collapsed into Communist regimes, totalitarian rule, and brutal dictatorships.”
It further argues that “many of the greatest crimes against humanity committed by socialist ideologues” including “famine, mass murder, and the killing of 100 million people worldwide.” It lists the tyrants who have espoused this ideology including Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, Pol Pot, Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Un, Daniel Ortega, Hugo Chavez, and Nicolás Maduro.
Incredibly 86 Democrats voted NAY and 14 punted and voted “present:”
Speaking of socialism, HBO’s Bill Maher may be a liberal, but he’s been a beacon of sanity on the “woke” Left.
During last week's show, Maher compared “woke” speech code censors to Red Guard revolutionaries in Mao’s China and Soviet communists who were 'trying to reinvent the very nature of human beings.' Over one million people died during the Cultural Revolution at the hands of the Red Guard.
Maher still says lots of things that anger conservatives but the target of his barbs has clearly shifted to the Left. 'Let's get this straight,' Maher said last year. 'It's not me who's changed, it's the left. A large contingent has gone mental, and I'm willing to call them out.'
Maher will now have a broader audience. A portion of his HBO show is being aired every weekend on CNN, another small but notable step in that network trying to moderate its own “woke” programming.
We are mostly about economics at CTUP, but sometimes national security issues intersect with the functioning of our economy.
If you have time, we urge you to watch this short five-minute video by Newsmax host Tom Basile, which is the best recap of how Biden and his national security/state department team allowed the Ukraine disaster to happen. This fiasco has already cost taxpayers nearly $100 billion. Nearly every Biden policy – from shutting down pipelines, to declaring war on American energy, to the embarrassing withdrawal from Afghanistan, to the feckless initial response to the invasion – has only played into Putin’s hands. The occupation and destruction of Ukraine is a classic affirmation of the Reagan warning that “weakness is provocative.”
The video linked here affirms what we’ve been saying from the start: the Russian invasion would never have happened in the first place if Trump had still been President.
Jeff Gerth was a Pulitzer Proze winning investigative journalist at the New York Times for 29 years. He has just published a searing indictment of mainstream journalism in the magazine of the Columbia University Journalism School. He lays out just how badly major news outlets covered the story of Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia both before and after the 2016 election.
Gerald Baker, the former editor of the news pages of the Wall Street Journal, summarizes:
“The real collusion, it seems, was between members of the press, officials hostile to Trump, prominent Democrats, former journalists, and spooks, all spinning up a story that the man elected president of the United States was a Russian intelligence asset.”
The New York Times brushed off his repeated questions about obvious inaccuracies in its reporting with the bromide that “we stand by our reporting.”
But the Times’ coverage came under fire at the time by its own public editor, Liz Spayd who “complained that the Times was operating under different standards at different times.”
She was later forced out and her job was eliminated.
This takedown of the “Russiagate” story helps explain why Gallup reports only 34 percent of people to have a “great deal” or a “fair amount” of trust in mainstream media. A full 38 percent say they have none at all, the highest ever recorded.
The Times boasts of being the “newspaper of record.” When will the editors apologize to their readers for a fake media story that was completely bogus right from the start?
