Legislative Update
Last week was a busy one, and we've spent hours in committees and on the House Floor debating bills.
On Thursday, we debated a bill to allow felons who are out on parole or probation to vote, even though their sentence has not been fully served. Despite numerous amendments being offered by House Republicans to make this bill less partisan, Democrats voted down every one of them on a party-line vote. The bill as it ended up would allow convicted murderers and rapists to receive the same consideration in getting their voting rights back as non-violent drug offenders. I voted against the bill.

I had a great time talking to constituents last week! On Friday, I met with Shahir Ahmed and Baba Letang from the Neighborhood Development Center (photo above). We had a great conversation!
I also had the opportunity to speak with Matt Varilek, Executive Director of the Initiative Foundation (photo at left). The Initiative Foundation works to strengthen communities and the economy in Central Minnesota.
Finally, Minority Leader Lisa Demuth and I met with the Mayor of St. Joseph, Rick Schultz, and Councilmember Kevin Kluesner (below).
If anybody from our district is ever in St. Paul, please feel free to stop by my office to talk about any thoughts or concerns you have about the issues coming before the legislature this session!
