Brilliant Light Night

light night3

It was wonderful to see so many people out and about enjoying our city together for Light Night.
There was as always a great atmosphere and some spectacular light installations which enthralled
thousands of visitors across Friday and Saturday nights.

I was particularly pleased to host the Stories by Candlelight sessions for children at the Council House ? the grand finale to this year?s Big Reading Challenge, which has also been a great success. Events like this never fail to showcase the best of Nottingham and remind me what a great city we live in. You can still donate here ? Donate to the Big Reading Challenge 2023 [ [link removed] ]

Race Equality Week begins today

race equality week

We are proud to be supporting Race Equality Week, which runs from Monday 6 - Sunday 12 February. Race Equality Week is an initiative that is celebrated throughout the UK. It unites thousands of organisations and individuals to address race equality barriers within the workplace.

Racial inequality has been amplified since 2020 due to the Black Lives Matter movement and the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on ethnic minority communities. This led to a UK-wide initiative; Race Equality Week, which was launched to turn words into meaningful action.

The theme for 2023 is #ItsEveryonesBusiness, because tackling race inequality is everyone?s business. We must all play an active role to address any equality barriers.

Nottingham apprenticeships are on the national stage

college

I?m really pleased that work being done by Nottingham City Homes (NCH) to support young people into work is being recognised nationally.

It?s National Apprenticeship Week 2023 this week and best practice at NCH has been included in a document being sent to major UK employers through a Government report. Young people are the future of our city and it?s so important that we?re able to provide them with a solid foundation as they start out in their careers.

Free eCargo bike trial for local businesses and voluntary or public sector organisations

bike trial

As part of our ongoing drive towards net zero carbon emissions in Nottingham, eCargo bikes can offer businesses and organisations a sustainable alternative to petrol and diesel vehicles and are specifically designed to transport cargo from A to B with zero emissions. They have a large storage space for cargo at the front of the frame and an electric motor to provide a much-welcomed pedalling boost.

The council is making eCargo bikes freely available to trial for 30-90 days for businesses, voluntary and public sector organisations. An admin fee applies to businesses and the public sector but is waived for charities. If you?re interested, there?s a training session coming up on 10 February, so get in touch now by emailing [email protected]

There?s still time to get a Covid-19 booster vaccination

covid vac

The NHS are encouraging people to come forward for their Covid booster vaccinations before the
offer ends on 12 February. The vaccine is still our best protection against the virus, so I would urge
anyone who is eligible, and not yet had their first or autumn booster, to book before the offer closes.

We know that immunity fades over time, even if you have already had the virus, so topping it up with a jab really is our best defence. The autumn booster jab is currently being offered to everyone?aged 50+, people with certain health conditions, pregnant women, carers and frontline healthcare workers.

To book your booster before 12 February you can phone 119 free of charge or visit
