A New EPA Proposal Cuts Methane, But It Doesn't Go Far Enough
Tell the Biden administration to stand up for our climate and

Dear NRDC Activist,
With over 80 times the warming power of carbon, methane
pollution is the second-biggest driver of climate change and a
huge threat to our health.
One of the surest ways we can fight the climate crisis is
to cut methane from oil and gas operations across the country —
and President Biden's EPA has now released a new proposal to do
just that. While it includes critical improvements, the
administration's plan falls short and does not do enough to
address the grave threats methane poses to our climate and
health.
EPA is inviting public comments on these critical standards
— but only until February 13. Tell EPA to adopt the strongest
standards to cut methane pollution from the fossil fuel industry.

It's simple: Cutting methane pollution from the oil and gas
industry is the quickest, most cost-effective way to slow the
rate of climate change and protect our health.
The oil and gas industry is the largest industrial source
of methane emissions, spewing millions of tons of this
climate-busting gas into our air each year. And in fact, their
methane emissions pack the same climate gut punch as operating
more than 150 coal plants or driving more than 145 million cars
for a year.
EPA's proposal takes a major step in the right direction by
ensuring all wells are regularly and frequently monitored for
leaks. However, the proposal must include the strongest possible
methane safeguards, like ensuring that well operators capture gas
emissions and limit the wasteful and dangerous practice of
routine flaring (burning off gas as a waste product).
The health of our communities and our climate future depend
on it. Please, submit a public comment urging the Biden
administration to slash dangerous methane emissions. ( [link removed]
