The Biden administration has proposed new rules that would slash credit card late fees. Those fees could be capped at $8, saving American consumers as much as $9 billion a year.
President Biden will also urge Congress to ban hidden "junk fees" and penalties that creep into everyday retail services across industries including entertainment, utility, and travel. The Junk Fee Prevention Act would target excessive fees on things like online concerts, sporting events, airline tickets, hidden hotel fees, and termination fees for TV, phone, and internet services.
