John, it seems as though every few years we go through the same
process of Republican rhetoric on the national debt. While the newest
House GOP majority has used "reining in government spending" as their
go-to slogan, the reality of funding seems to be lost on them.

The truth of our debts, social programs, and overall funding is much more
complex than the constant examples of "maxing out a credit card." These
fiscal phonies really think Americans can’t remember the debt ceiling
increases that Trump was handed three times during his presidency.
Republicans engage in these cut-throat political tactics for no other
reason than to create the kind of government dysfunction needed to justify
their claims that government doesn’t work. It’s like a tire shop
sprinkling nails on the road to increase business. They don’t care about
the economic instability and hardship they will create if our government
defaults, millions of workers become unemployed and the markets meltdown. 

They will continue to leverage whatever bit of power they have to make
governing difficult for President Biden, even if that means making
American lives harder. This is the exact playbook they used to upend
Obama’s legislative agenda, and they will continue to run this play so
long as we allow them to control any bit of Congress.

We need to make sure that our next Democratic president has the
congressional support they need in both houses to get things done. We do
that by winning back the House and expanding our Senate majority even more
in 2024, and we start that by planning and organizing today. [ [link removed] ]Take a
