Hi Friend -
In 1957 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave a speech called "Give us the Ballot" to a crowd of 20,000 people on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
It was an indictment of a Congress, which at the time was failing to ensure voting rights for Black Americans.
In his address he proclaimed: "Give us the ballot, and we will no longer have to worry the federal government about our basic rights."
63 years later Dr. King's words still ring true.
As you know, the right to vote is under attack right now across the country.
And in the absence of federal protections it's up to advocacy groups like ours to honor Dr. King's legacy through not just words, but action -- and fight back against these attempts to suppress the vote.
Here at Fair Fight, we know how far we have to go so that marginalized communities have access to the ballot box.
Monday marks the day when the country comes together to commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. -- but his legacy is too big to be realized in just one day.
We must fight every single day to achieve his dream of ensuring what has been so long denied to so many Americans - the freedom to participate in free and fair elections
With you in the fight
