Mind in Barnet - online courses

A series of online wellbeing courses including Anger Management on Thurs 9 Feb (10am-1pm); Gratitude for Wellbeing on Thurs 16 Feb (10am-1pm). Learn about the science of happiness, and the power of gratitude, which includes an introduction to keeping a gratitude journal. The 2022 Salvesen Lecture: The Neurodiversity Concept (From Salvesen Mindroom Research Centre), Tuesday 7 February, 6.00 - 7.00pm

Professor Edmund Sonuga-Barke of King's College London will ask "Does the neurodiversity concept provide a foundation for a new science of neurodevelopment?", drawing on decades of work primarily focused on ADHD and mental health. Edmund will be joined by Dr Sylvan Baker, Dr Susie Chandler and members of the RE-STAR team showcasing their creative and inclusive research approach.

Free Workshop: Part 1 Exploring Anxiety (From Mid West Aries), Tuesday 7 February, 2.00 - 4.00pm

During this workshop they will examine and reflect on an understanding of anxiety. They will discuss a range of topics including "is anxiety normal?" and "what causes anxiety?". This session also includes a number of practical ways to manage anxiety adding to your recovery toolkit.

Free Workshop: Part 2 Managing Anxiety (From Mid West Aries), Thursday 9 February, 10.00am - 12.00pm

This workshop explores your understanding of anxiety, types of anxiety, causes and responses to it. They will examine examples of self-care and identify ways of supporting someone with anxiety. They will develop a plan with individual tips and tools as they consider how to manage anxiety and build our recovery toolbox.

The Barnet Wellbeing service are encouraging people living with mental health conditions to have regular annual health checks provided by their GP.

It is recommended by NHS England that these health checks happen once every year as they can reduce the risk of developing physical illnesses.

They would like to invite you to book your physical health check.

At a physical health check, the GP will:

· Check your blood pressure.

· Measure your height and weight.

· Test your blood glucose for risk of diabetes.

· Check your blood cholesterol levels.

· And ask some questions about any smoking or alcohol habits.

Your physical health is just as important as your mental health.

They will be at various locations in Barnet to engage with the public, promoting the importance of this message - details of which will be published on their website and across their social media channels.

Understanding Dementia (From Dementia Club UK), Monday 6 February, 7.00 - 8.00pm

This is a FREE one-hour ‘Dementia Foundation’ CPD certified course designed to give you a core understanding of dementia and its impact.

• This course is aimed at individuals who are caring for someone living with dementia and they need a better understanding of this disease.

• The course is also aimed at organisations and businesses who need to create or improve their current policies around ensuring the best customer and staff experience in situations involving those living with dementia.

Insight into Creative Psychotherapy (Expressing Emotions Creatively) (From Holistic Wellness Community), Monday 6 February, 6.00 - 7.00pm

A chance to express yourself creatively, using creative therapeutic techniques and exercises facilitated by Dramatherapist Emma-Jo. These classes provide insight into ways you can include creativity in your life to help process emotions, trauma, to aid healing, stress, anxiety, feeling overwhelmed and more, within creative methods to aid safety. Guided meditations will be used throughout and a chance to check in with yourself, providing a space to just 'be' in a world where we are constantly having to 'do'.

An hour of singing for the soul. Victoria will share with you some short, simple but deeply nourishing or uplifting songs that will go in easily, no matter what your experience. We are an independent support group, run by ex service users, for service users, their carers and supporters.

Weekly online social group from Mind in Enfield and Barnet, Fridays from 6.00 - 7.00pm

This group takes place by Zoom, and the session is broken up into a few casual activities such as:

Play a quiz where everybody provides 3 questions

Share and discuss TV, movies and news that has inspired us this week

Nearly all of our directors and staff have lived experience of disability, including mental health issues and/or long-term health conditions.
