Greetings Michigan Dems!
It might be February of 2023 and we have a Democratic President, Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, along with a Democratic led House and Senate but from Ottawa County to Lansing to Washington DC, we are still in a fight for our lives.
Though Democrats in Lansing have wasted no time getting to work delivering on the promises they made during the election, the Republicans are putting up a good fight here in Lansing and we are seeing it play out in local communities as well.
This is why there is no “off-year” in politics. The importance of protecting, re-electing, and electing Democrats on all levels - from library boards to President is so critically important.
The MDP is busy out there meeting with new lawmakers and recruiting candidates for the local, state, and federal elections that will happen between now and November 2024.
We are also busy moving forward with new ways to connect with Michiganders and keep you informed of the good work Democrats are doing on our behalf.
Don’t forget that our convention is right around the corner. You can find more details below and on our website.
Finally, I want to take a moment to recognize Black History Month. We are honored to have the first Black Speaker of the House with Representative Joe Tate and the first Black woman sitting on our Supreme Court with Justice Kyra Harris Bolden, but there is still much work to do.
This month we honor our Black leaders, as we should every month of the year. I encourage you to follow along on our social media as we highlight many of Michigan’s greatest Black leaders.
Please stay safe and healthy. I look forward to seeing you at Huntington Place in Detroit on Saturday, February 11 for our convention.
