Denouncing Socialism on the House Floor

On Thursday, I denounced the horrors of socialism on the House floor and called all members of the House to support H.Con.Res 9. Throughout floor debate on this resolution, House Democrats tried to distract and deflect from the subject at hand. I called out the absurdity of their arguments and returned the debate to the real issue: capitalism is a system of freedom while socialism is a system used to take from and oppress a nation’s citizens. Today and every day I am proud to stand up for our capitalist system and the freedoms we hold dear in the United States of America. Combatting Far-Left Ideologies and the ESG Movement

Progressives are trying to do with businesses what they have done to our public education system—use our institutions to force their far-left ideology on Americans. This must stop. That's why I formed a Financial Services Committee working group to combat far-left ESG proposals, protect the financial interests of everyday investors, and ensure American capital markets remain the envy of the world. Helping to Pass Three Bipartisan Financial Services Bills

On Monday, the House of Representatives passed several pieces of bipartisan financial services legislation. These were the first three financial services bills that have passed the House since I became the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. Among the bipartisan bills passed were initiatives to combat the financial exploitation of our seniors and other vulnerable adults, streamline federal credit union board meeting requirements, and increase access to capital for rural small businesses. On Wednesday, I led the House Financial Services Committee's Organizational Meeting for the 118th Congress. The Committee considered resolutions to appoint members to their respective subcommittees, adopted a Committee Oversight and Authorization plan, and adopted Committee rules for the 118th Congress. Supporting Our First Responders

Every year, I am proud to hosts workshops for Tenth District EMS and fire departments to help guide personnel through the grant application process administered by the Grant Programs Directorate of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. These workshops help our local first responders get an inside view of what the committee is looking for. I want to thank Chief Mark Hinson of the Conover Fire Department for teaching my annual FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grants class and Troutman Fire and Rescue for hosting. We had a great turnout with departments from across the Tenth District represented. Best of luck to all of our departments on their applications!

Our U.S. military men and women who pay the ultimate sacrifice deserve to be honored and remembered each and every day. One local organization in Hickory is doing just that. Fallen Heroes Ministry collaborates with Bumgarner Oil Co. in Hickory to honor soldiers who died in battle. Recently they have honored the memory of U.S. Army Major Larry Bauguess Jr who was stationed in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, and was killed while defending others during a peace meeting at a schoolhouse in Pakistan. Thank you to all who serve this great nation.
