Friend,

 

As the only meteorologist in Congress, I care deeply about how we can harness science and technology to combat climate change. That’s why I was proud to be named to the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, but you can probably imagine my shock and disappointment when Kevin McCarthy tried to seat confirmed con artist George Santos to serve on this committee as well.

By now, you know the story of George Santos. To win votes, he blatantly lied to voters about the jobs he held, the university he attended, and even claimed to be Jewish. The guy went so far as to change his own name! But what’s almost worse is that his campaign actually railed against pro-environmental policies and at one point called renewable energy a “scam.” 

 

Well, it turns out the real scam was George Santos all along. 

 

The fact that Kevin McCarthy tried to appoint Santos to the science committee speaks volumes about his priorities. The GOP could care less about the truth or science, but what they do want is a loyal rubber stamp for their terrible agenda. 

 

I’m relieved Santos was pressured to step down (at least for now 🙄), but the idea that Santos would have a say on science policy should concern everyone.

 

Santos and the GOP value politics over the truth, but I still believe in making science and facts a basis for decision-making. I suspect you do too, friend, so I’m asking for your help to defend integrity and keep me in Congress for another term.
