For five days, rescuers from PETA Asia have been working hard to bring relief to the many animals put in danger by the eruption of Taal Volcano in the Philippines.

They have been working around the clock to provide frightened survivors with food and veterinary care and are now ferrying dogs, horses, and other animals out of the disaster zone to safety. The work is both physically and emotionally exhausting, but the determined rescuers won't rest until they've reached every animal on the devastated island who needs their help.

UPDATE: Rescuers still need your help

Dear Friend,

When the volcanic island of Taal in the Philippines exploded in a cloud of ash and debris earlier this week, a PETA Asia emergency rescue team went to work immediately on the ground doing all that it could to get animals out of harm's way and provide the dogs, horses, chickens, and others who managed to survive the disaster with the food and veterinary care that they urgently needed.

Taal is an isolated, impoverished island in the Philippines. For years, PETA Asia conducted lifesaving clinics there, helping hundreds of malnourished and exhausted horses who were used to ferry tourists up and down the volcano. The destruction caused by this massive eruption is putting the life of every single animal on the island at risk.

While many animals died under inches of choking ash from the volcano, many others—including dogs and others left behind when the island was evacuated—are still trapped there. The team has already helped dozens of dogs and cats affected by the eruption, but the work necessary to reach the others is far from over.

With so much devastation around them, the scale of the work yet to come may seem daunting, but each team member is committed to doing whatever they can to bring relief to the many dogs, cats, and other animals who are waiting for help.

Thank you for your compassion and for all that you do to support PETA Asia's vital work.
