# [#]Since the Dobbs decision, my team and I are closely tracking any potential issues for reproductive freedom in our state.
In order to protect health care privacy, I’m partnering with Rep. Vandana Slatter and Sen. Manka Dhingra and requesting the My Health, My Data Act , which prohibits websites and apps from collecting and selling consumer health data.
You might wonder — how does consumer health data relate to reproductive rights?
Health apps such as period tracking apps can sell sensitive information about a woman’s late period or miscarriage to data brokers. Anti-choice groups and law enforcement in states with strict anti-abortion laws are able to purchase this information — and potentially use it in an effort to prosecute individuals seeking abortion or miscarriage treatment in another state.
Our proposed legislation stops this in its tracks. Organizations will be prohibited from selling your health data, and it will be illegal for apps and websites to collect your health data without consent. It’s extremely important that we don’t leave any Washingtonians vulnerable to anti-abortion groups.
