My dear friends and supporters,
2023 is off to an amazing start, and so is my second term as State Treasurer. If you follow me on social media (Twitter, FB, Instagram), you know how much I love my job and being out in the community: listening, learning, educating, and taking action. Here’s some of what I worked on in January along with a preview of events.
Los Angeles Community Swearing-In
This year, I was so pleased to be able to bring my community swearing-in ceremony to Los Angeles. Big things are happening here, and I am spending more and more of my time in the city. Thank you to my long-time friend and former Assembly colleague Mayor Karen Bass for swearing me in – and to my amazing supporters for attending.

March for Democracy
I was proud to join Governor Gavin Newsom for his inauguration to his second term. In a powerful testament to California’s commitment to democracy, justice and fairness to all, I marched with hundreds of statewide leaders in Sacramento – arm in arm with my personal hero, Dolores Huerta. It was a moment I will never forget.

Year of the Rabbit 2023 USPS Stamp Unveiling
I was thrilled to join AAPI leaders at the Asian Art Museum for the unveiling of the issuance of Year of the Rabbit 2023 stamps from the U.S. Postal Service! At the gathering, we celebrated the recognition of Asian culture and traditions. Special thanks to Claudine Cheng for organizing!

High-Speed Rail is Coming to SoCal!
I have been a leading proponent to bring the Brightline West high-speed rail project to Southern California, connecting the state high-speed rail system from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Through this public-private partnership, we expect to generate as many as 40,000 jobs in the region and remove 400,000 tons of CO2 annually. Check out the latest update in the video below.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday
I was honored to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy with civil rights icon Reverend James Lawson and keynote speaker Tavis Smiley with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Southern California. I was so inspired by the stories they shared of MLK and the contributions of the honorees. It gave me new strength in the fight for racial, social and economic justice.
