Happy Black History Month,
John!

Wednesday marked the beginning of Black History Month in the U.S. — 28
days of celebrating Black excellence and acknowledging that Black history
is American history.

Throughout our nation's history, we have never fully delivered on the
promises of democracy. The legacies of slavery and Jim Crow have carried
on through voter suppression, unequal economic policies, police violence,
defunded education, housing discrimination, community disinvestments, and
more.

But since even before our country's founding, Black leaders have been
fighting for change, for a better America for all of us. We honor their
legacies and work today — and support Black leaders who are still turning
the tides of our country. Leaders like Summer.

Last month, Summer became the first Black woman to represent Pennsylvania
in Congress. Until last November, Pennsylvania, one of the original 13
colonies, had not elected a Black woman to the House of Representatives or
Senate. While this achievement was long overdue, Summer is determined to
make sure she won’t be the last or only Black Congresswoman from PA.

In Congress, Summer's using her position on the powerful Oversight
Committee to fight back against GOP white supremacist super-villains like
Marjorie Taylor Greene, Paul Gosar, and Lauren Boebert — uniting us
against our common enemy: corporations and the wealthy elite who stoke
division while they fund Republicans to pick our pockets.

Summer knows firsthand what it's like to grow up in a community overlooked
by politicians and targeted by corporations who put profits over people.
We know racial justice is more than just one issue — it is guaranteeing
union jobs, supporting environmental justice, ending the school-to-prison
pipeline, passing universal health care, overhauling racist voter
suppression laws, investing in our schools, passing common sense gun
reform, ending the Black maternal mortality crisis, and securing
reproductive rights.

Today, let's join together to support the first Black Congresswoman from
Pennsylvania, and the many who will come after her. [ [link removed] ]Will you chip in

movement for change?
