John,
Two years ago, I joined thousands of women and men at the Women’s March in Topeka, where I announced my campaign for governor. I remember watching as the crowd grew from hundreds to thousands flooding the Capitol grounds. It was an inspiring event at a challenging time -- and that memory served as my reminder throughout my campaign and first year as your governor.
This weekend, women across Kansas will be gathering again to march for our rights, 100-plus years after women were finally granted the right to vote.
We've made so much progress in Kansas and across the country over the last two years, but we still have a ways to go before we are all truly equal under the law. Women's rights are under attack at both the local and national levels and women in Kansas still only make 79% of what their male co-workers earn.
I'm still inspired by the women I met two years ago and the stories they shared, and I'm encouraged to continue fighting for women's rights across the state.
Thank you,
Laura
