Earlier this week, Joe Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency blocked the development of a gold and copper mine in Bristol Bay, Alaska.
Why is this important?
We’ve been working toward this for 10 years.
Every summer, hundreds of Veterans head to Bristol Bay to earn a living as commercial fishermen. It’s not easy for them and it separates them from their families — again — but it pays well and takes care of things back home.
Unfortunately, there were some mining companies with connections to the Koch Brothers that wanted to dig a mine near the bay that would destroy those jobs and lay waste to the environment.
We worked to help tens of thousands of Veterans, Military family members and those who support them submit letters to the EPA as a part of a coalition to stop that mine development.
We elevated the voices of Iraq war Veterans who made a living as commercial fishermen there, and a Kosovo Veteran who operated a lodge near the proposed facility for more than three decades.
And this week, we won.
Victories like this supporting Veterans are part of the often unseen work we do at VoteVets. Wins that sometimes take years to happen and are funded, in part, by donations from people like you. Help us keep up that work for years to come.
Can you please make a $3 donation to sustain VoteVets work fighting for Veterans like this for the long haul. It’d mean the world.
