It is a privilege to serve the 23rd Congressional District of Texas in Congress. Each day, I work to address your concerns and protect our liberties. Please read below for some updates on my recent work representing you in Washington, D.C. and back home in TX-23. Introduced the Bipartisan SAFE Act It’s time to take action to combat the opioid crisis plaguing America. Deadly fentanyl is being smuggled into our country at record levels, putting American communities in danger. That’s why I introduced the bipartisan Save Americans from the Fentanyl Emergency Act (SAFE Act) alongside Representative Pappas (NH-01) and Representative Newhouse (WA-04). This legislation would classify fentanyl as a Schedule 1 drug, helping law enforcement keep this substance off the streets. Read my full press release here. Announced Committee Assignments for the 118th Congress I am honored to serve on the House Appropriations and Homeland Security Committees for the 118th Congress. I will always advocate for the people of TX-23 as I work to secure our borders, support veterans, and improve our communities. My position on the House Appropriations Committee will allow me to continue delivering critical funding opportunities for our district, while the House Homeland Security Committee grants me direct access to CBP and ICE agencies as I fight to secure our southern border. Inaugurated the Congressional Hispanic Conference This week I hosted a press event to kick off the Congressional Hispanic Conference for which I am proud to serve as co-chair during the 118th Congress. This trailblazing group of Hispanic Republicans is larger than it has ever been, and I look forward to leading the Conference to support our law enforcement officers, promote trade and commerce, and secure the border. Had Dinner With the U.S.-Guatemalan Ambassador This week, the Congressional Hispanic Conference sat down for dinner with the Guatemalan Ambassador to the US, Alfonso Quiñónez. We discussed different ways we can work together on issues like border security and improved trade relations. It is crucial that we have a productive relationship with Guatemala, and I am looking forward to working alongside these men and women to benefit security and prosperity in both countries. Participated in a Trade Roundtable with the U.S.-Mexico Foundation I had the opportunity to participate in a border trade roundtable with the U.S.-Mexico Foundation. During the meeting we discussed our bilateral energy, security and supply chain relations with Mexico. I look forward to continuing to improve our binational relationship with Mexico to build a stronger North America. Hosted a Telephone Town Hall During my tele-town hall, Edna from El Paso pointed out that the border crisis they are living with each day is not being accurately portrayed by the media. She explained that when government officials announce their arrival in advance, the mess is “magically”hidden for the duration of their visit. That’s why I am committed to spotlighting this crisis. Once you see the chaos firsthand, you can't unsee it. I have hosted 90+ members from both sides of the aisle at the border, and will continue to meet with boots on the ground to document what my constituents are facing. UPCOMING OFFICE HOURS As your Representative, I want to make sure each of my constituents has access to the resources my office has to offer. This week, my team will be visiting folks in Upton and Reagan Counties. Be sure to stop by for assistance, no appointment needed! My team and I are always available to assist you. Please feel free to contact my office at any time.
