Here are some updates from the last few days.

Last night, former President Donald Trump, who has a long history of disparaging mail-in voting and spreading conspiracy theories about the commonsense voting tool, came out in favor of drop boxes in a post on Truth Social. [link removed]

Hundreds of thousands of standing mail-in ballot requests in Florida were canceled last month as a result of Senate Bill 90, a voter suppression law enacted in May 2021. Voters can now only request to automatically receive a mail-in ballot for up to two years. [link removed]

On Wednesday, the Florida Department of State submitted a report to the Florida Legislature recommending legislative proposals to update the mail-in voting process. However, the department does not recommend requiring ID numbers on mail-in ballots. [link removed]

Yesterday, the Republican-controlled Virginia House of Delegates passed a bill that would tighten ID requirements to vote. The bill would remove copies of utility bills, bank statements and more from the list of acceptable IDs to vote, as well as removing the option to sign a sworn affidavit if a voter lacks ID. The bill is unlikely to advance in the Democratic-controlled state Senate. [link removed]

Yesterday evening, the Democratic-controlled Minnesota House passed House File 28, a bill that would restore voting rights to individuals on parole, probation or community release due to a felony conviction. The bill now goes to the Minnesota Senate, which is also controlled by Democrats. [link removed]

Today, an Arizona court held a hearing on a motion to dismiss a Republican lawsuit against Maricopa County’s election worker regulations. [link removed]
