My work in TX-31 and Congress Howdy Texan, I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on what’s happening in the U.S. House and Texas’ 31st district. ON THE DOCKET: Thank You Investing in Central Texas The Freedom for Health Care Workers Act Constituent Services Update THE BRIEF: Children’s learning loss during the pandemic could reduce their lifetime earnings by $70,000. The Biden administration is looking to ban gas stoves from American homes under the guise of “public safety.” Fentanyl seizures by Customs and Border Protection increased more than 50% from November 2022 to December 2022. THANK YOU! I wanted to offer a quick thank you to the first responders, road and bridge crews, and lineworkers that have been working throughout the winter storm that hit this week. Central Texans appreciate your hard work to restore power, clear downed trees and answer the call to help others. Congressman Carter presents a commemorative check to City of Belton Mayor Wayne Carpenter. INVESTING IN CENTRAL TEXAS Today I announced $5 million in federal community project funds for a new bridge to replace a low water crossing in the City of Belton. As a conservative, I ask myself two questions when I'm determining if a project should receive federal funds. The first is whether this is a good use of Americans' hard-earned tax dollars, and the second is if it will make my constituents' lives better. This project meets those two requirements. The current low water crossing becomes a dam during rain events, resulting in significant flooding in Belton, which creates a public safety hazard putting lives at risk. This funding will mitigate those two issues with a new bridge. I'm proud to bring these tax dollars back home to reinvest in our community on projects that will improve the daily lives of Central Texans. THE FREEDOM FOR HEALTH CARE WORKERS ACT This week, I voted YES on the Freedom for Health Care Workers Act. It’s past time to put an end to Biden’s COVID vaccine mandate on health care workers! Our dedicated medical professionals never should have been burdened with this authoritarian mandate, which is an attack on the personal freedoms of our frontline workers and has unnecessarily exacerbated the healthcare workforce shortage. Now that the pandemic is over, it is past time for federal funding of these mandates to end. CONSTITUENT SERVICES UPDATE In the month of January, my office helped 167 constituents with issues involving a federal agency, returned over $197,000 back to TX-31 and responded to 3,582 constituent comments. My team and I are here to serve! If you have a problem with a federal agency, need help booking tours in Washington, DC, or would like to share your thoughts on an issue, visit carter.house.gov. As always, thank you for taking the time to stay updated on what's happening in Texas' 31st congressional district. Follow my Facebook and Twitter accounts for more updates. It is an honor and privilege to represent you and Texas in the United States House. Sincerely, John R. Carter Visit our website! WC Willamson County 4411 S I 35 Frontage Rd.
