I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) poses a significant threat to our great nation. Countering the Chinese Communist Party's Land Grab in the U.S. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) poses a significant threat to our great nation. The United States is engaged in a great power struggle with the CCP, and we must respond with tough policies that will protect our farmland and food supply chain. I hear from many farmers in Central Washington who are deeply concerned about the CCP buying up our nation's farmland, and I am committed to taking action. This week, I introduced legislation to counter the CCP's land grab in the U.S. The Prohibition of Agricultural Land for the People's Republic of China Act would prohibit the purchase of public or private agricultural land in the U.S. by foreign nationals associated with the CCP. As a member of the House Select Committee on China, I will continue to lead against the aggressions of the CCP, strengthen our domestic production, and prevent our nation's strongest adversary from having an advantage over our food supply chain. Read More Delivering for Central Washington's Wheat and Grain Growers I had the privilege of meeting with the Washington Association of Wheat Growers and the Washington Grain Commission where we discussed some of the major issues affecting their industries. These groups work tirelessly for the growers of wheat and barley to ensure their farmers and producers can meet the ever-increasing demands. Trade and transportation are consistently top concerns for their industries. I will continue to be a stalwart advocate for the transportation of their barges going through the dams of Central Washington. Last week, I introduced the Agriculture Export Promotion Act to promote trade and increase global competitiveness for not only the wheat and barley industries, but for all Central Washington farmers. This legislation will increase funding to the U.S. Department of Agriculture export promotion programs, the Market Acess Program (MAP) and the Foreign Market Development Program (FMDP). These essential programs further advance the agriculture industry's capabilities to create more good-paying jobs while enabling customers around the world to enjoy Washington's high-quality, nutritious products. Read More Addressing Labor Concerns with the National Council of Agricultural Employees The National Council of Agricultural Employers (NCAE) invited me to speak at their 59th Annual meeting this week. We had a very in-depth conversation about the concerns of agricultural employers and the opportunities for reform in the 118th Congress. Currently, agriculture cannot meet its employment needs, which is hindering growth, job creation, and economic activity. I am having active discussions with my House colleagues on H-2A and am hopeful we will make significant progress and the necessary changes to meet the industry's labor needs. Our region's agricultural industry would not be the success it is without the dedicated efforts of the men and women growing and harvesting food that feeds the world. Serving as Co-Chair of the Congressional Wine Caucus I was announced as the Co-Chair of the Congressional Wine Caucus for the 118th Congress. As a proud grape grower, I know firsthand the strong economic contributions made by grape and wine producers and the issues our industry faces. I am honored to represent the flourishing, high-quality wine region of Central Washington! Read More Chiawana Career Day Mark your calendar!
