Dear John,
I’m writing to you today after a full week of hearings, meetings and votes in Washington!
Last week, I was nominated to serve on the Energy and Commerce Committee for a second term. During the 117th Congress, we made historic strides to lower health care costs in our country – we capped insulin copays at $35 a month for those on Medicare, allowed Medicare the power to negotiate and finally cracked down on Big Pharma. I’m honored to have the opportunity to build on that progress as a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee.
And we got right to work. On Wednesday, the Energy and Commerce Committee convened for a hearing on the fentanyl crisis. Every corner of our country has been affected by the dangers of fentanyl – and it’s critical that Congress understands all aspects of this issue and provides our law enforcement officers with the resources needed to combat this crisis.
In the hearing, I shared my experience joining Shakopee Police Officer Yesenia Soto for a ride-along last fall. During the ride-along, Officer Soto was dispatched to the scene of a public drug overdose – which she and her fellow officers were able to successfully reverse.
You can watch my opening remarks by clicking on the image below:
Our officers are on the front lines of this crisis every single day – and it’s absolutely essential that Congress provide them with additional resources as they combat the unique challenges posed by the fentanyl crisis. I’ll keep fighting to ensure that they do.
On a different note, I wanted to provide you all with one final reminder: today is the last day to fill out my USPS survey. I want to hear directly from you about the ways you and your family have been impacted by USPS delays – and I’m going to be sending these stories directly to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.
I want to hear from you. Make sure to submit your stories, comments and concerns in the survey below by the end of the day!
Here's what else I've been up to this week:
Working to Prevent Catalytic Converter Theft
Catalytic converter and auto thefts are on the rise in Minnesota – and our local law enforcement needs more support. So this week, I joined Democrats and Republicans in introducing the bipartisan Preventing Auto Recycling Act to ensure that Minnesota law enforcement has the tools they need to effectively combat these crimes.
Supporting Biofuel Expansion
We know that tapping the power of America’s biofuel producers and our family farmers is key to increasing US energy independence and lowering gas prices. During Tuesday’s Energy and Commerce hearing, I joined my colleagues to discuss the benefits of expanding biofuel production here at home.
Meeting with Women's Sports Foundation
This Wednesday was National Girls and Women in Sports Day – and who better to celebrate that with than the team at Women's Sports Foundation! It was great to hear about their hard work to prepare all girls and women to be strong leaders on and off the field.
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
For this week’s behind-the-scenes moment, I thought I’d share a fun photo of all the women on the Energy and Commerce Committee. This is quite an impressive bipartisan group of women – and I’m honored to count them all as colleagues!
It’s been a very busy week in Washington – and I’m excited to be back with my family this weekend. I am wishing you all a wonderful weekend – stay warm!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
