McCarthy's announcement could lead some extreme members of the MAGA Republican Majority to use the debt ceiling to try and force cuts to programs like Medicare and Social Security.

Republicans know we can't raise the debt ceiling without their votes -- and they know what will happen if we don't:

Retirement savings could be devastated. Social Security and Medicare could suffer. Veterans could lose hard-earned benefits.

We're talking about people's livelihoods. MAGA Republicans know the risks, but they just don't care.
