Legislative Update
On Monday of this week we heard a bill on the House Floor to allow everyone, regardless of legal status, to get a driver's license. The majority in the House refused every common sense amendment that Republicans offered, including clearly marking these licenses that they are not for voting purposes, and in the end we were left with a very partisan bill with serious implications for our election process.
In State Government Finance committee this week, we heard a bill to legalize cannabis. Unfortunately, this bill runs roughshod over local control by preempting the power of local governments to decide what businesses can move in to cities and towns. I had multiple amendments in committee to restore local control, but the majority party voted each of them down on a party-line vote.

Ron Otto (Dryden Twp), Dustin Meredith (Winsted Twp) and Gary Burdoff (Green Isle Twp).
This week I had several meetings with constituents here at the Capitol! I met with representatives from Twin Cities RISE, local members of ABATE (American Bikers for Awareness, Training, and Education - photo at top), and local township officials (photo above).
Last weekend, I got to spend time with my granddaughter Sophia, who is one of my main reasons to make our state better in my service as a State Representative!
Finally, we have some local fish fries coming up! The next one is this Saturday in Hamburg, at the Hamburg Community Hall from 11am to 6pm, and I hope to see you there!
