Seeing the Taj Mahal: Decades ago, Salman Rushdie wrote about India’s most recognized landmark for us. Reading his words now carries a new meaning following a stabbing attack in which the novelist lost sight in one eye. The Taj, Rushdie wrote, must be seen “to remind us that the world is real, that the sound is truer than the echo, the original more forceful than its image in a mirror.” Read the essay here.
