More than half of LGBTQ+ parents surveyed considered moving out of Florida because of the Don’t Say Gay bill

Research from the Williams Institute and Clark University finds nearly 9 out of 10 (88%) LGBTQ+ parents surveyed are concerned about the impact of the Don’t Say Gay bill on them and their children.

Parents cited concerns that the bill would restrict them from speaking freely about their families and could affect their children’s sense of self and sense of safety. As a result, 56% of LGBTQ+ parents have considered moving out of Florida, and 17% have taken steps to do so.

Participants who experienced higher HIV stigma were more likely to experience depression and anxiety, as well as lower life satisfaction and quality of life.
