This is a new low, John.

In my home state of Florida, GOP lawmakers introduced a dangerous proposal that would remove ALL background checks and safety training requirements to carry a gun.

This reckless legislation could open the door to violence in unexpected places — on our highways, in our grocery stores, and in our places of worship — by making it easier for people to access guns without a permit or background check.

It’s clear that extremist lawmakers in the pocket of the gun lobby are so hungry for a political talking point that they’re willing to put kids' lives at risk and go against what every responsible gun owner knows: no one should ever pick up a loaded gun without training and knowing how to handle it safely.

Make no mistake: Governor Ron DeSantis is waging war on education and our livelihoods to turn Florida into a Christian nationalist dystopia. He doesn't give a damn about protecting our lives or keeping communities safe. Last month, we experienced more mass shootings than days of the month, including one in Lakeland, Florida just this week.

Now more than ever, we need a mass movement of Floridians for gun violence prevention, educational freedom, and democracy. I will work hard to ensure HB 543 never sees the light of day, and I hope you’ll join me in that effort by adding a donation to support March For Our Lives today →
