John:

Last week, we saw something we haven't seen in years: Thanks to a now open amendment process in the House of Representatives, some 140 amendments were proposed for a bill that would force President Biden to open access to U.S.- based energy sources instead of dipping into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

This is just one of the changes that resulted from the deal between Speaker Kevin McCarthy and members of the House Freedom Caucus, a courageous group of legislators whom we are honored to host here at CPI regularly.

CPI experts, including myself, have long discussed potential reforms to restore Congress as a functioning, deliberative body where rank-and-file members— and not just establishment leaders—get a say in the issues affecting all of us.

One idea came straight from CPI partner Center for Renewing America: Last summer, they were the first to call on Congress to create a Church-style committee to investigate the weaponization of the federal government. At CPI, we're recommending and training top staff to serve on key committees like this one.

It is my privilege to thank you for making all of this work possible. Here's how you put points on the board for conservatives last month.

Sincerely,
Ed Corrigan

CPI to Launch New Staff Training Academy
CPI Training Academy

The courage we saw in the Speaker's fight is a look at what is possible when even a small but courageous few members of Congress and their staff understand how the game is played in Washington.

To continue upending the business-as-usual approach in D.C., CPI is launching an expanded Academy that will give congressional staff and allies a formalized education in expert tactics involving House and Senate procedure and strategy, investigations, media content creation, and more.

A generous donor has challenged CPI to raise $5 million toward this new Academy, which they will match dollar-for-dollar if all pledges are received by April 30, 2023.

Partner Spotlight: State Freedom Caucus Network Fights "50 Swamps in 50 States"
State Freedom Caucus Network
(States where Freedom Caucuses have been launched as of Feb. 2023.)

CPI's partner State Freedom Caucus Network is challenging the Establishment and woke leftists in state legislatures across the country.

And the media is taking notice.

In a Fox News article ([link removed]) last month, State Freedom Caucus Network President Andy Roth explained that the hard-won deal with Speaker McCarthy has inspired similar stands against the Establishment by SFCN's growing network of nine Freedom Caucuses.

On Jan. 3, as the Speaker fight was raging, a coalition of 14 Montana state legislators announced the formation of the Montana Freedom Caucus.

Commenting on the new caucus, Montana State Senator Theresa Manzella posted on Facebook, “Did you watch the House Freedom Caucus block the election of the left-leaning speaker today? Small in number, but strong and strategic. We hope you will be as effective at the state level!”

These caucuses are small but mighty, and have already scored undeniable wins against the transgender lobby, big spending bills, leftist K-12 curriculum, and more:
* The Wyoming Freedom Caucus is pushing legislation that would change the attorney general from an appointed to an elected position, another move by the group seeking to change some of the ways in which governance in Wyoming operates.

* The South Dakota Freedom Caucus is fighting a purported “economic development bill” being pushed by Governor Kristi Noem that includes a $50 million pay-off from Biden Democrats to special interests in South Dakota.

* The fight continues to rage between the South Carolina Freedom Caucus and the SC House GOP Caucus, who kicked out Freedom Caucus members for refusing to sign leadership’s “loyalty oath,” which prevents lawmakers from telling voters why their “Republican” colleagues are killing conservative bills. Late last year, the SC Freedom Caucus established itself as a force to be reckoned with when it created enough public pressure to shut down a state hospital’s diabolical “transgender pediatric unit.”

Conservative Partnership Center Hosts Rep. Ken Buck to Discuss His New Book on Big Tech
Congressman Ken Buck - Colorado

CPI is proud to share one of its most vital resources–the Conservative Partnership Center–with the thought leaders of the conservative movement.

On Jan. 11, we kicked off the New Year with an event with Congressman Ken Buck of Colorado. He discussed his new book, “Crushed: Big Tech’s War on Free Speech."

Sen. Ted Cruz, who wrote the Forward to the book, praised “Crushed” for exposing “Big Tech’s most egregious abuses of power—from censorship, discrimination, and political favoritism to self-preferencing, self-dealing and predatory, anti-competitive efforts.”

“Any other industry,” Sen. Cruz wrote, “that trampled free speech rights, destroyed the playing field for competition, and silenced politicians and charity groups for their political views would face a mountain of lawsuits for their brazen abuses of power.”

Among the attendees at the event were American Moment President Saurabh Sharma and American Principles Project’s Terry Shilling, who interviewed Rep. Buck about his book and the ways in which companies like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and Amazon censor speech and opinions they don’t like.

Why Hungarian Conservatism Matters to the U.S.
Counterpoint Institute

What do conservatives in America and conservatives in Hungary have in common?

Both embrace “God, family, and homeland, and reject globalist woke culture, [and] battle totalitarianism and socialism,” explained Miklos Szantho, the Director General of the Center for Fundamental Rights in Hungary.

On Jan. 10, Szantho joined the president of the Counterpoint Institute – a group that exposes the truth about issues in national security and foreign policy – at a CPI event on why European and Hungarian conservatism should matter to the United States.

Szantho and Counterpoint Institute President Dr. Shea Bradley-Farrell emphasized that conservative values are under attack all over the world, and stressed the importance of building a strong conservative network to restore these values.

As Szantho explained, it’s not in the interest of American conservatives to have a weakening Europe, and “it’s important for American conservatives to have common sense partners in Europe… a cooperation of conservative forces.”

Messaging from CPI Studios: It's Time to Change the Way Washington Operates
Congresswoman Lauren Boebert - Colorado

Each week CPI Studios is filled with conservative communicators countering the Establishment way of thinking. CPI Studios exists to provide them with the right tools to get their message out when it matters.

In January, as the fight to elect a new House Speaker unfolded, members of Congress and conservative leaders used CPI Studios to give Americans an accurate understanding of what was going on.

Some of the conservative members who used CPI Studios the week of the Speaker’s race included:
* Congresswoman Lauren Boebert
* Congressman Bob Good
* Congressman Byron Donalds
* Congressman Andy Biggs
* Congressman Ralph Norman
* Congressman Warren Davidson
* Congressman Rich McCormick

While there are big challenges ahead, the results of the Speaker’s race proved that it is possible to change the way Washington operates.
