The first quarter in the year after a big election is always really slow for fundraising.

Ordinarily, that’s okay. This time, it’s not.

My team had to take on debt in order to win in 2022. Taking on debt was the right thing to do – with polls as close as they were and pundits doubting whether we could win, it was what we needed to do.

But now the bills are due and the books are tight. January wasn’t as strong as we hoped and February is off to a slow start as well.
