House Removes Ilhan Omar from Foreign Affairs Committee

National Review: The House of Representatives voted Thursday to remove Representative Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) from the Foreign Affairs Committee over her history of making antisemitic remarks. Omar has made several antisemitic comments throughout her career. Before entering public office, in 2012, Omar tweeted that “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.” Although Omar apologized for the comments, she has subsequently made additional antisemitic remarks (National Review). Washington Examiner: McCarthy previously removed Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) unilaterally from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, citing Schiff’s handling of the investigations into former President Donald Trump’s alleged ties to Russia and Swalwell’s relationship with an alleged Chinese spy. Schiff and Swalwell have repeatedly insisted they did nothing wrong (Washington Examiner).

Retrospective of Media’s Coverage of Russiagate
Colombia Journalism Review: No narrative did more to shape Trump’s relations with the press than Russiagate. The story, which included the Steele dossier and the Mueller report among other totemic moments, resulted in Pulitzer Prizes as well as embarrassing retractions and damaged careers. For Trump, the press’s pursuit of the Russia story convinced him that any sort of normal relationship with the press was impossible (Colombia Journalism Review). Federalist: Mummified legend Bob Woodward is quoted in the piece, authored this week by former New York Times journalist Jeff Gerth, urging newsrooms to “walk down the painful road of introspection.” Gerth himself says “news outlets and watchdogs haven’t been as forthright in examining their own Trump-Russia coverage… As horrid as the media was pre-Trump, its shortcomings were mostly recognized as “liberal bias.” What they did beginning in 2017 and ever since isn’t bias. It’s dishonest. It’s malicious. It’s evil (Federalist).

Conservative Board Members Look to Restore Failing and Ideologically Adrift New College in Florida
DeSantis Pushing Back: Looks to Restore Failing and Ideologically Adrift New College in Florida. Fl.gov: Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Christopher Rufo, Dr. Matthew Spalding, Dr. Charles R. Kesler, Dr. Mark Bauerlein, Debra Jenks, and Jason “Eddie” Speir to the New College of Florida Board of Trustees (Fl.gov). Chris Rufo: The immediate experiment is to say, can we take a university that is notoriously low performing, can we change it to a classical liberal arts model, bring in conservative faculty, bring in conservative leadership, bring in a new president, which we’ve just done. We terminated the contract of the now-former president at our first board meeting… The bigger experiment is can conservatives actually govern public institutions? Can they start changing the culture of the public universities? And then can this be a model for every red state in the country to go away from the DEI-style bureaucracy (Daybreak Daily). New board members also includes Ryan Anderson (Palm Beach Post).

The top US diplomat would meet Xi during his two-day visit, which starts on Sunday. Blinken is visiting China after Biden and Xi agreed in Bali in November that they should find ways to stabilize the turbulent US-China relationship (Financial Times). Reuters: The United States has warned the Chinese government of consequences should China provide weaponry to Russia for use against Ukraine (Reuters).

Dr. Peter McCullough’s Free Speech Case Thrown Out
Daily Wire: A district judge vindicated Texas cardiologist and outspoken COVID vaccine critic Dr. Peter McCullough on Wednesday, dismissing a lawsuit filed against him approximately two years ago by his former employer Baylor Scott and White Health system. McCullough, dubbed a prominent purveyor of COVID misinformation by his detractors, was sued by the health system two years ago for allegedly violating a separation agreement and bringing the Baylor Scott and White Health name into the media. Associate Judge Tahira Khan Merritt of the Judicial District Court Dallas County dismissed the suit with prejudice (Daily Wire). Dr. Anthony Hinton: Dr. Peter McCullough wins an important legal case in the US. All doctors have a right to freedom of speech and a duty to speak the truth to protect patients. Senators Demand Information on Classified Documents Pertaining to Trump, Biden and Pence
Washington Examiner: Top Senators on the Intelligence Committee are demanding that Attorney General Merrick Garland and National Intelligence Director Avril Haines turn over all classified documents seized at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and at the Penn Biden Center think tank, which housed records from Joe Biden’s time as vice president. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Mark Warner (D-VA) in August 2022 demanded both Garland and Haines provide classified materials in relation to the investigation surrounding Trump’s Mar-a-Lago, and in January made a similar request following classified materials being found at the think tank. Now, the senators are urging “immediate compliance” with these requests following the DOJ not providing any documents (Washington Examiner). Andrew Desiderio: Here’s the letter Warner and Rubio just sent to Garland and Haines on the classified docs. “We urge your immediate compliance with our previous requests, which we now extend to those classified materials subsequently discovered at” Biden/Pence homes (Twitter).

Suspected Chinese Spy Balloon Found Flying Over US
ABC: A massive spy balloon believed to be from China was seen above Montana on Thursday and is being tracked as it flies across the continental United States, with President Joe Biden ultimately deciding against “military options” because of the risk to civilians, U.S. officials said. The high-altitude reconnaissance balloon was not the first such vessel to pass over the country in this way, a defense official said in a briefing. A separate senior official told ABC News the balloon is the size of three buses and complete with a technology bay (ABC). Fox News: The balloon’s discovery also comes as the U.S. and Philippines agreed to increase its military presence within the islands amid escalating tensions between China and Taiwan (Fox News).

US Suffering from Decline in Churches
Guardian: Churches are closing at rapid numbers in the US, researchers say, as congregations dwindle across the country and a younger generation of Americans abandon Christianity altogether – even as faith continues to dominate American politics. As the US adjusts to an increasingly non-religious population, thousands of churches are closing each year in the country – a figure that experts believe may have accelerated since the Covid-19 pandemic (Guardian). Lifeway Research: In 2019, approximately 3,000 Protestant churches were started in the U.S., but 4,500 Protestant churches closed. For 2014, an estimated 4,000 Protestant churches were planted, while 3,700 closed in a year (Lifeway Research).

Democrat Connecticut Representative Proposes Banning Woke “Latinex” Term
National Review: Hispanic lawmakers in Connecticut have proposed a new state law that would ban the term “Latinx” from government documents. Democratic state representative Geraldo Reyes believes the term, which progressive activists have encouraged people to use as a gender-neutral version of “Latino” or “Latina,” is disrespectful. “I’m of Puerto Rican descent and I find it offensive,” Reyes said, clarifying that the term was created by progressive ideologues and did not arise organically (National Review). Daily Wire: A national poll conducted in October found that only 1% of Hispanics identify as “Latinx,” a gender-neutral term imposed on Hispanics by left-wing culture (Daily Wire).
