**Maine Department of Labor Releases Workforce Outlook to 2030**
*The decreasing number of births and the aging population that results from that continue to be the primary factors impacting the size of Maine's workforce.*
AUGUSTA - The Maine Department of Labors Center for Workforce Research and Information has released its employment projections for the period from 2020 to 2030. From 2022 through 2030, long-term trends, including an aging population and lower birth rates, are expected to return as the primary factors shaping the rate of change and composition of the workforce.

The onset of the pandemic suppressed employment in the base year of 2020. Much of the change that is outlined in the report had already occurred in the cyclical recovery by the middle of 2022.
