Dear Neighbor,
It has been a busy start to the 118th Congress. Here's an update on my work for you, including an upcoming town hall, important legislation, committee assignments, my newest Constituent of the Month, and more.
February Town Hall
I will be hosting a town hall in Carlsbad on Monday, February 13th at 3PM to answer your questions and discuss how I’m working to lower costs for your family.
RSVP here. Address will be provided upon RSVP.
Connecting with our Local Elected Officials
I’m excited to work with our newly elected and re-elected officials throughout CA-49.
I recently met with several to discuss their priorities and how we can work together to help our communities.
January Constituent of the Month and State of the Union Guest
I am proud to honor Myrone “Bruce” Gaffney, a disabled U.S. Army veteran and Social Security recipient, as my January Constituent of the Month. Bruce is an esteemed veteran who sustained an injury in Afghanistan that left him 100 percent disabled and we thank him for his continuous contributions to our community.
I am proud to announce he will be my guest to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. Read more about Bruce here.
Celebrating Black History Month
February is Black History Month, and as we celebrate the incredible contributions of Black Americans, we must also do everything we can to uphold and honor our local Black community's legacy with a commitment to action, not just this month but every month.
I will be hosting a variety of events to highlight Black History Month. Stay tuned on my social media pages! Let's use this time to honor the often-overlooked justice seekers, history makers, and the untold stories. Black history is American history.
Fighting to Ban Offshore Drilling on the Southern California Coast
The only foolproof way to prevent another oil spill off the Southern California coast is to stop offshore drilling. I recently spoke on the House Floor on my amendment to ban offshore drilling off the Southern California coast.
Watch HERE: Rep. Mike Levin speaks on the House floor in support of banning offshore drilling off the Southern California coast.
All but two House Republicans voted against my amendment to permanently ban oil drilling off of the Southern California coast. It’s most disappointing that every single California House Republican prioritized the profits of Big Oil over our coastal environment and economy.
While House Republicans continue to push for handouts to Big Oil, I’ll keep fighting to protect our coastal environment and economy.
118th Congress Committee Assignments
I am honored to be named to both the Veterans Affairs and Natural Resources Committees for the 118th Congress! I am especially proud to have been selected as Ranking Member of the Veterans Affairs Economic Opportunity Subcommittee.
Top priorities of mine are protecting our environment and supporting our veterans, and I will be able to do all of this and more serving on these key committees.
Presenting a Congressional Gold Medal
I was honored to present a Congressional Gold Medal and proclamation to Kurt Loewy, who served as a merchant mariner during WWII. The Congressional Gold Medal honors those whose dedication and heroism have created a lasting impact on our nation. We are indebted to Kurt for his service.
Valentines for Veterans
My office is coordinating our annual Valentines for Veterans program to collect and distribute Valentine’s Day cards to local veterans.
Constituents of all ages are encouraged to participate by dropping off or mailing cards to my Oceanside or Dana Point offices. Submissions must be dropped off by Friday, February 10, 2023 or mailed out by Wednesday, February 8, 2023. Note: Valentines should be delivered in unsealed envelopes.
Let’s show some love to our veterans!
As always, it's an honor to represent you in Congress. Remember to follow my Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram pages, and sign up for my e-newsletter for the latest updates from my office.
Sincerely,
Mike Levin Member of Congress
