Clyburn: GOP Investigations Are ‘Political’ and a ‘Waste of Time’

Monday on MSNBC’s All In, Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) said hypocritically that House Republicans’ upcoming investigations were “a waste of time” and merely an attempt to “score political points.”

Asked what his expectation and position are toward “these various investigations that [Republicans] are gearing up to do,” Clyburn replied, “I think they are very, very unnecessary. They are really a waste of time. I think they have proved that with Benghazi. We know what the result of that was, two and a half years. I don’t know how much money was spent, and it was all for naught. It may have been of some detriment to Hillary Clinton, but that is not what we run government for. Government is here to really address the things that are really responsible and things that really get the country moving, get people, lives in order. Not to score political points. If we are going to run this government to score political points, I think the result is going to be the same. We saw that time and time again when they were in power before, and I think that will be the end result this time as well. But then, a lot of money will have been spent and wasted, and a lot of time, but we could be devoting it to improving people’s lives.”

Unbelievable — and yet predictable — projection on Clyburn’s part. He completely ignored, among other purely partisan investigations, his own Party’s pointless obsession with the Russian collusion hoax. It ate up two years and $32 million of taxpayer funds solely to damage and harass former President Trump. Meanwhile, the Benghazi investigation he complained about was legitimate because Americans died and Hillary lied.

Moreover, Clyburn’s pompous declaration that government is here to get people’s lives in order is laughable, considering the damage his Party has done in a mere two years to the lives of the American people.

In an August 16, 2017 interview on CNN, Clyburn said that the United States was becoming more like Nazi Germany with a Hitler-like Donald Trump as president. “We are approaching a place that we’ve been before,” he stated. “We remember from our studies what happened in the 1930s in Germany. I told a business group down at Hilton Head several weeks before the election, that what I saw coming was a replay of what happened in Nazi Germany.” Clyburn then asserted that both Trump and Hitler were elected by the people: “The fact of the matter is Hitler was elected as chancellor of Germany. He did not become a dictator until later when people began to be influenced by his foolishness. We just elected a president and he’s got a lot of foolishness going on, and I’m afraid that too many people are being influenced by that foolishness.”
