It's time to step up for election integrity

Dear John,

Let's be clear- the Constitution says that elections are a state issue. So Congress can't pass election law that's binding, short of a Constitutional Amendment.

That's why we need to go all the way- enshrine election integrity in our Constitution.

If we can't trust our elections, we have no Republic anymore. No government by the people, of the people, for the people.

Six times previous, our Constitution was amended to change election law (Amendments # 15, 17, 19, 23, 24, and 26). Why? Because legitimate elections are the underpinning of our Republic.

But right now, the legitimacy of our election are in doubt. Lack of transparency or consistency, and sometimes outright fraud, are causing problems in many states.

That is why I think the following Constitutional Amendment needs to happen:

"No members of Congress shall be seated, nor any Electoral College electors be counted, from any state that does not have:

a. photograph identification requirement to vote;
b. elections in person, and on the first Tuesday in November, excepting absentee provisions for the invalid, military, or overseas voters;
c. paper ballots, counted by hand;
d. vote count open to observation by the public, and by representatives of the candidates on the ballot.
"

Importantly, this Amendment would respect the states' rights to govern their own elections, while ensuring there is some basic minimum standards for elections in the United States.

THIS, Congress CAN do. THIS, I can do when I get to Congress!
Amend the Constitution to secure our elections! ([link removed])
Simply put, our Republic has no future if we don't step up and prevent the perversion of our elections.

Corruption happens in many forms. After all we have seen, if you don't think corrupt people can find a way to twist our elections for their own power and benefit, I don't know what to tell you.

If our Republic has a weakness, it's corruption. That's why we need this Constitutional Amendment.

Some will tell me "it's not politically wise". Some may call me worse than that.

I don't care. Right is right, and this is the solution that will allow us as a country to move forward, with confidence, together.
