Hi John, Yesterday, I cried for the first time this campaign cycle. The Philadelphia Democratic Committee endorsed the appointed City Controller for this election. She recently sued the City to try to circumvent the city charter rule that she would have to resign to run. The judge struck down her case, adamantly – she would need to resign to run. Yet, she received the City Committee recommendation for endorsement while telling the press she was considering a run for office. It’s word play, corrupt, unethical, and a waste of taxpayer dollars. I’m running to root out corruption, end back door deals, and eliminate wasteful spending. While the acting City Controller is fussing about dodging city charter election rules, the City of Philadelphia has a mayor who is bragging about spending limitless money on an Eagles’ parade if we win the Super Bowl, the City is facing the possibility of having to return nearly $840 million of unused federal COVID-19 relief money, and publicly funded programs are going unchecked with the misappropriation of public funds. Philadelphians not only deserve, but need a City Controller who is going to fight tooth and nail for every single penny of taxpayer dollars to be used wisely and for the benefit of everyday people. I cried yesterday because once again, we are forced to bear witness to government negligence and an abuse of power while everyday people and our issues are shoved to the side and allowed to suffer. I can’t stand it any longer. Our campaign needs financial backing so we can stay focused on the issues everyday people are facing. We aren’t backed by a heartless, power hungry political machine or corporate interests. We are fully reliant upon grassroots donors and your generosity. If we can’t stop corruption in local government, we’ll never be able to weed it out of the federal government. In the words of Robert F. Kennedy, each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.
