Bus Service to Increase March 19, 2023

Bus at OTC

Our upcoming service change adds bus service to several routes as we continue our journey back to pre-pandemic service levels. Beginning Sunday, March 19, more service will be added to Routes 64 and 68 along with more evening trips on several routes. Once effective, these changes increase service to approximately 78 percent of our pre-pandemic service levels.

Service Details:

  • Route 12: Three later trips leaving the Olympia Transit Center (OTC) at 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
  • Route 41: One more evening trip leaving OTC at 9 p.m.
  • Route 64: Increased frequency from 60- to 30-minutes.
  • Route 65: One more evening trip leaving the Lacey Transit Center (LTC) at 8:28 p.m.
  • Route 68: Earlier weekday service beginning at 5:31 a.m. from LTC.

We continue to work toward providing more bus service as we?re able to. Adding service requires having enough bus drivers available to drive. If you or anyone you know is interested in driving with us, please visit intercitytransit.com/employment.

Join Intercity Transit?s Winter Bicycle Challenge

Winter BCC

The Winter Bicycle Challenge encourages all Thurston County residents to bike for any reason in any season. Bicycling outdoors is a great way to enjoy the benefits of fresh air, sunlight, and activity!

To participate, create an account at bcc.intercitytransit.com and enter the miles you ride each day Feb. 1-28. Check your spam filter for the confirmation email, and if you have any difficulty registering, contact [email protected].

There will be prize drawings each week, plus a bonus drawing at the end of the month for everyone who logs rides on 10 or more days. Tag your biking photos using @BicycleCommuterChallenge on Instagram to join our cycling photo challenge.

Winter poses more challenges and risks for biking than other seasons. We don't recommend biking when there is snow or ice on our roads. That is a great time to ride the bus!

Walk N Roll Bike Shop has Moved

New WNR Shop

With help from volunteers, staff, and the community, the Walk N Roll bike shop moved from its downtown location to a new space in the Intercity Transit Administrative and Operations building at 2599 Martin Way, Suite 101.

The new bike shop will continue to host volunteers who learn bike mechanics while refurbishing donated bikes used in Earn-A-Bike classes. The shop features work benches perfectly sized for the space built by our AmeriCorps volunteer, Sam. Our previous work benches were donated to Avanti High School where bike mechanic education will be added to their existing bike program. We look forward to welcoming you into our new space soon!

Martin Way Park and Ride Improvements

Intercity Transit's contractor will begin work to imrpove safety and speed up service at the Martin Way Park and Ride later this month. Improvements will include a "bus only" direct access from the northbound I-5 on-ramp into the park and ride, a new bus stop adjacent to the on-ramp, and related facility updates. You'll see construction activity at the park and ride through the fall of 2023.

Construction is anticipated to temporarily impact some parking areas and will require temporary relocation of the bus loading area. When finished, the project will reduce the schedule times and improve bus access and passenger loading areas for riders who use Olympia Express service connecting Olympia/Lacey to regional bus and commuter rail services in Lakewood/Pierce County.

Watch for changes posted at the park and ride and subscribe to updates to stay informed on when and how the changes may impact parking and boarding locations until the project is complete. More information about the improvements will be posted on our website, intercitytransit.com, soon.
