If we’re going to overcome the voter suppression that leads to “red states,” then we have to build power at every level to stop it.

No matter where you live, the color of your skin, or your religion, we all want to have a government that protects our civil rights and treats people with respect and dignity.

Republicans, MAGA extremists, and their corporate backers are using their stranglehold on local offices to stoke hate against the LGBTQIA community, deny people their reproductive rights, and uphold a legacy of disenfranchisement among Black and brown communities.

Contest Every Race was created because we know that places under Republican domination are the places where Democrats need to be fighting the hardest. So-called “Red States” are just places where the conservative agenda to disenfranchise and marginalize people based on their race, gender, and sexuality has succeeded.

We don't avoid any states. We build power in deep-red areas by identifying everyday leaders among women and communities of color and giving them the resources and support they need to run for office – from the smallest town or school board all the way up to the state legislature – where no Democrat would otherwise run.

We work in states like the Dakotas, where Native voices are silenced through voter suppression, and Louisiana, where Black voices are hushed by legislation.
