Looking for a great great activity to kick off Black History Month? Check out our primary source-based lesson, "Lift Every Voice and Sing" from our Plainest Demands of Justice curriculum . Students will read the lyrics to the song, often known as the Black National Anthem, and answer questions, such as "How do the lyrics refer to the past? The present? The future?" Our latest eLesson guides discussion about "Lift Every Voice and Sing" as a primary source to discover how it relates to the Founding principles of liberty, equality, and justice.

Student Opportunity

Get your students into dialogue with students from around the country! Encourage their participation in our Think the Vote debate platform. The current question is "Should state governments end qualified immunity for law enforcement?"

Winners are picked on both sides and BRI awards prizes for the best answers. Referring teachers are also able to win prizes!
