My Sisters and Brothers,

Here at the start of Black History Month, I continue to be truly inspired by the thousands of young Black voters I meet across Wisconsin. They are the countless youth who are the future of our great state.

And now, there is an extremist agenda pushing to rewrite the collective story of our shared history in classrooms and in AP courses across the country. Their attempt is to minimize and degrade the Black American experience – pushing an un-whole narrative, all in the effort to satiate a base full of false outrage.

Facing that ugly reality, now, more than ever, it is important to remember and celebrate the shared contribution to our national discourse and how that experience has contributed to and enhanced our nation. Let that ring true not only this month but every day of every year.

In thinking about those scores of young people, our next generation of leaders, I think about the world we will leave them and the generations that come after. I find promise in their voice and hope in their determination and I’m humbled that we’re all on this road together...walking toward a better tomorrow, all the while, carrying the stories of ancestors with us.

Together, #WeRepresent!
