Happy Black History Month,
John!
As February starts, Team Jayapal is celebrating Black leaders and
visionaries whose accomplishments and contributions have pushed our
country to truly embody the democratic ideals we cherish and made our
country a more fair and equitable one.
This month serves as a crucial reminder of the need to have difficult and
honest conversations, continually educating ourselves, and taking the time
to honor the complex and varied experiences that come with being Black in
the United States.
Black Americans’ experiences are essential to telling our nation’s story.
Black history is American history that matters beyond the month of
February — and we’re committed to uplifting it 365 days a year.
Team Jayapal remains dedicated to organizing and advocating for bold,
impactful solutions to the issues that disproportionately impact Black
Americans, including securing more affordable housing, guaranteeing
healthcare, expanding voting rights, and reforming law enforcement and the
criminal justice system.
We’ve compiled a list of our top recommendations for anyone seeking to
continue to educate themselves. We invite you to learn more and explore
the many facets of the Black experience this month and beyond, and hope
you won’t let the conversation end here. Please share these resources far
and wide or even forward this email to a few friends.
