Dear Friend,
Maybe you've already heard, but a legislator in Missouri introduced a bill creating parental "review boards" to act as censors over the state's public libraries. Librarians who share banned books with kids could get prison time.

I know, it feels like another daily outrage. And yet instances like this are when PEN America mobilizes. Right now, we're calling on our Members in Missouri to inundate the state legislature with calls. Outside Missouri, we've led the way fighting against arbitrary book bans in the nation's schools, libraries, and prisons.
This kind of threat to the free exchange of ideas and the freedom to read is intolerable. It's why we work so hard every day. But we can't do it alone. Even the smallest contribution ([link removed][UNIQID]) can help us lead the fight for the freedom to write, especially this year.

Please consider supporting ([link removed][UNIQID]) our work pushing back against book bans and other forms of censorship. A world where books are banned and librarians are locked up isn't a world any of us wants to live in.
In solidarity,
Suzanne Nossel
Chief Executive Officer
PEN America
PS -- Your contribution is vital ([link removed][UNIQID]) . We can't do this without you. And for those of you who have given recently, thank you.
