WEEK IN REVIEW

Dear Friend,

Happy Saturday! Before you dive in to your weekend, I wanted to give you a quick snapshot of the work I’ve been doing for Iowans, including two major wins on the trade and agriculture front with the passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and the signing of the phase one trade deal with China.

Getting USMCA Across the Finish Line

It was hard work, and it took way too long, but we did it: this week I helped pass the USMCA out of the Senate, sending the critical trade deal to President Trump’s desk and final ratification.

I’ve heard time and again from Iowa’s farmers, manufacturers, and business owners about the need for the USMCA. And each time, for more than a year, I would convey that message loud and clear to my colleagues in the House. Finally the Senate was given our chance to take swift action and passed this agreement with overwhelmingly bipartisan support.

I joined Bloomberg TV to discuss the positive impacts of the USMCA for folks in Iowa and across the country.

Joining President Trump at the White House

Earlier in the week, I was honored to join the President, Senator Chuck Grassley, and Governor Kim Reynolds at the White House for the signing ceremony for the phase one trade agreement between the United States and China. As Iowa’s 4th largest trading partner, China is a critically important market for Iowans, and this phase one deal – which is especially promising for our ag and manufacturing sectors – will help provide certainty for folks back home.

Snapped a quick selfie with Senator Grassley and Governor Reynolds at the White House.

Following the ceremony, I joined Neil Cavuto on Fox Business from the White House lawn to discuss this win for Iowa.

Kicking of My Sixth 99 County Tour

The start of the new year also means the beginning of another 99 County Tour. There’s no better way to represent Iowa than to be out meeting with and hearing from Iowans in all of our communities, which is why this annual tradition is so important to me. Last weekend, I kicked off my sixth 99 County Tour, making visits to Montgomery, Adams, and Madison Counties.

During my 99 County Tour stops, I heard from Iowans about the importance of getting both the USMCA and the phase one trade deal with China done. I’m extremely pleased to report back to that we delivered on both!

There’s no doubt that this is an exciting start to the new year for our great state of Iowa. From the phase one China agreement being finalized to the USMCA moving through the Senate, I’m proud to work with President Trump to deliver real results for Iowa’s farmers and manufacturers.
