Dear friend,

Yesterday, I was humbled and honored to stand alongside gun violence survivors as I introduced the Assault Weapons Ban Act.

From places of worship and schools to grocery stores and movie theaters, no public space is free from the havoc of a potential mass shooting. At the heart of this violence is assault weapons. Originally designed for military use, semi-automatic weapons can kill quickly and efficiently.

Assault weapons used to be banned nationwide, but Congress allowed the ban to expire in 2004. We’re still living with the deadly consequences of that decision today.

It is shameful that we have let 20 years go by without federal legislation to regulate assault weapons. Between 2009 and 2020, the five deadliest mass shootings in our country involved the use of assault weapons and/or high-capacity magazines: Las Vegas, Orlando, Newtown, Sutherland Springs, and El Paso.

The need for action couldn’t be more clear, and I’m calling on my colleagues in the House and Senate to have the courage to stand up against the gun lobby and do what’s right.

Friend, will you join me in calling on my colleagues in the House and Senate to support the Assault Weapons Ban Act? [[link removed]]
