The man who argued at the Arizona Supreme Court on Joanna and Breanna’s behalf, ADF Senior Counsel Jonathan Scruggs, was also personally impacted by the faithfulness and generosity of people like you.
Years ago, when he was a first-year law student at Harvard Law School, Jon wasn’t sure what type of law he wanted to practice—or even that he wanted to practice law at all.
Then he attended the Blackstone Legal Fellowship.
Blackstone brings together exceptional Christian law students and prepares them for careers marked by integrity and excellence. The mix of education combined with a six-week legal internship gives law students an up-close and personal look at what a career in law could look like.
For someone like Jon, who always enjoyed constitutional law in college, interning at Alliance Defending Freedom was the perfect fit.
“[At ADF] I got to see what constitutional lawyers actually did and the issues they worked on,” says Jon. “I saw their day-to-day and their passion for helping clients and working on issues they agreed with. I was hooked ever since.”
Jon earned his law degree at Harvard in 2006 and joined ADF shortly after that. Now, thirteen years later, he serves as senior counsel and director of the Center for Conscience Initiatives.
“I love our conscience cases, love the clients that we meet, just trying to live out their faith in their business,” says Jon.
