Letter from an Editor

It's the most wonderful time of the year: Women's March Weekend!

Feminists everywhere are taking to the streets to demand equality and fight for progress—and if you're joining them, we want to hear your stories! Click here to tell us why you march. (Submissions should be short—a sentence or two. Your quote may appear in the next issue of Ms.!)

And if you're looking for inspiration or motivation in the lead-up to the march, look no further than this week's picks below.

For equality,

Carmen Rios
Managing Digital Editor

Now that Virginia has become the 38th and final state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, the fight now moves to Congress and the courts to ensure the ERA is added to the Constitution. Show your support with the Feminist Majority's limited-edition tee! Proceeds benefit Feminist Majority's work to empower feminists, who are the majority, and to win equality for women at the decision-making tables of the state, nation, and the world. This shirt will be available for two weeks only, so don't miss out—purchase yours today!

Why I March

I march because I know that every single action and every single voice in this movement counts. I march as an ally to and in solidarity with the collective force fighting for our freedom and human rights. I march because I don’t have a choice—because our planet is burning, war is imminent and women are still being silenced for fighting for our rights. I march because I must.

Virginia Just Ratified the Equal Rights Amendment

Wednesday, with Equal Rights Amendment supporters filling the galleries, the Virginia Senate by an 28-12 vote and the Virginia House by a 59-41 vote ratified the federal Equal Rights Amendment. These decisive votes by the Virginia general assembly make Virginia the 38th and final state necessary to ratify the ERA and to make it a part of the U.S. Constitution.

What #MeToo Means in 2020

Reads for the Rest of Us: Feminist Books Coming Out in 2020

End poverty. End patriarchy. While it had its ups and downs, 2019 was a great year for books written by women, trans and gender nonconforming writers and other historically marginalized writers. This year is shaping up to be even better—as evidenced by the 86 books in this very 2020 preview!
