MARCH ON is dedicated to increasing voter turnout and driving Democrats to the polls. Our data-driven solutions led the way for progressive victories in 2020 and 2022. Now, we're gearing up to stop Trump’s comeback in 2024.

Friend, happy Black History Month!

Each week of February, we’ll be profiling Black women in politics who inspire us to keep fighting for progressive change – in our communities and nationwide!

Today, we’re celebrating newly-elected Representative Summer Lee of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In 2018, Summer Lee defied the odds when she challenged a 20-year incumbent for a seat in the Pennsylvania State House – and won with over 67% of the vote.

Lee didn’t stop there – she ran for the U.S. House in 2022 and won, flipping a red district blue and becoming the first Black woman to represent Pennsylvania in Congress.

A lifelong activist in her community, Lee has led local organizing efforts on issues such as police accountability, criminal justice reform, increasing the minimum wage, and environmental justice.

Lee is just getting started with her term in Congress, but she’s already making her mark by joining the House Oversight Committee, where she’ll be on the front lines of the fight to defend our democracy against election-denying MAGA Republicans.

Friend, remember: Progressive champions like Summer Lee were elected thanks to the tireless activism and organizing by grassroots supporters like you!

Check back next week to read our profile on another Black woman in politics.

Thank you for celebrating Black History Month with us!
