Dear John,
Around the country, we are seeing attacks on the education system to suppress teaching certain parts of American history.
On the first day of Black History Month, I spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives about the importance of studying Black history while recognizing the powerful impact that African Americans have made on our society.
Black history is integral to American history – we must study and understand our past, however uncomfortable it is, so we do not repeat it.
