Now that I have your attention, let’s talk about the State of the Union address.

Did you know that for 112 years the State of the Union speech was only delivered in writing because Thomas Jefferson was a nervous public speaker?

Even the Founding Fathers knew that this speech is — to borrow a phrase from our current President — a BFD.

That’s why we’re calling on President Biden to seize this moment to take a strong stand for democracy in his State of the Union address next Tuesday.

Right now, corruption is one of the biggest threats to our democracy. You know it. People all across America know it. The House is taking shots at the Office of Congressional Ethics. Candidates for office are using their platforms to call fair elections into question. And across America politicians are using their positions to hoard power and get rich instead of serving the people. This should be a top concern for President Biden, yet Congress and the White House never seem to get around to addressing it. 🤔

We're tired of it.

Right now we have a chance to put pressure on the President to make fighting corruption a priority and talk about it while the whole nation is paying attention.

The State of the Union address is one of the most visible examples of democracy in action. While America watches on TV and both parties have to sit together and pay attention for once, the President can deliver a strong message and jump-start some action on corruption.
